1. Adrian Peterson - Age 24
The best runningback in the league and he is only 24, do I need to say more? Peterson can make any run and plays on a superbowl caliber team. He has a history of injuries but his upside is way to high for him not to be the number one overall pick.
2. Maurice Jones-Drew - Age 24
Jones-Drew is 24 years old and has already proven himself as a top all around back. This year he gets the chance to be THE back in Jacksonville and is destined for a big year.
3. Matt Forte - Age 23
I passed on Forte last year in my league and while I am not sold just yet, he is a good fit here at number three. He has no competition for carries in Chicago and catches the ball well. If you are looking for a good, young, all around back then it seems Forte is it.
4. DeAngelo Williams - Age 26
In talent alone I would rank Williams number two behing AP. However, he has Jonathon Stewert behind him and is going to splitt carries. Williams has averaged 5.1 yrds per carry over his career and should get enough touches to be a consistent top back. Recent Stewert injuries have made Williams 2009 season outlook look even better.
5. Michael Turner - Age 27
Turner is older than most up here on this list but has similar wear. He has enormous talent and showed he can run between the tackles and still turn the corner. Atlanta will continue to ride turner early and often. If he holds up he is in line for three or four more top 5 years.
6. Chris Johnson - Age 23
Johnson is coming off a great rookie season and will most likely get more touches this season. If his sophmore year is as good as his rookie one, he will climb up this list very quickly.
7. Frank Gore - Age 26
Gore has established himself as a top runningback. However, the 19ers offense has continually struggled and so Gore slips out of the top five and lands here at number seven. He will see many eight man fronts but will still put up good numbers.
8. Steven Jackson - Age 26
Steven Jackson has had some injury concerns over the past two years and has still put up decent numbers. Jackson is a high risk - high reward pick. He could put up great numbers, or continue to struggle with injuries and playing for a poor team. If healthy he will get the ball a lot as he catches the ball extremely well.
9. Marshawn Lynch - Age 23
Lynch is very young at 23 and has produced well even facing mostly eight man fronts. Trent Edwards should continue to progress and make teams respect the pass. Reminder that Lynch will start the season serving a suspension but has tremendous upside. If he stays out of trouble he should be a top ten back or higher for many years to come.
10. Steve Slaton - Age 23
This was a tough one for me. Recent news suggests that slaton might lose out on goalline touches this year. Still Slaton has tremendous upside as a young, talented back, coming off a surprisingly strong rookie year. If this team makes the leap this year like I am projecting, then this ranking will pay off.
